This recorded session from the HMPPS Think Child Campaign features independent Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel members Jacqui Belfield Smith MBE and Ian Critchley, who explore key themes emerging from national child safeguarding practice reviews. The HMPPS Think Child Campaign 2026 supports practitioners to recognise, understand and respond to the experiences and needs of children.
Drawing on their experience across youth justice, policing and public protection, they reflect on how effective multi-agency working contributes to better safeguarding outcomes for children. The discussion considers the role of prison and probation practitioners in identifying vulnerability, sharing information and contributing to coordinated safeguarding responses.
The session also introduces the Panel’s website and Learning Hub as sources of national safeguarding learning, evidence and practical resources.
